Our June exhibition features two Tulsa painters whose styles are derived from collaging ideas and feelings together through their playful intuitive decision-making. Jessica Woody works primarily on vinyl records as the vehicle to telling surreal stories. Carlos A. Bejaranos' process allows his (and our) mind to drift beyond the rigid borders of reality as he paints a playful, creative, and colorful realm of peace.

Jessica Woody: "Mixed media art is made from discarded vinyl records that I collect from local record stores. I use standard LP viny! records as a canvas for my collage art that I meticulously hand-cut. I use the imagery to tell a story, and then I paint each piece by hand with a non-traditional, dimensional acrylic paint, and seal it with a decoupage sealant. I'm inspired by the eco-conscious benefits of my artwork materials".
Carlos A. Bejarano is a Mexican-born, mixed-media artist focusing on contemporary abstract paintings. He lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his husband Derek, two corgis, Simon and Zeke, and a raspy-voiced cat named Dorothy.
His paintings come from a state of relaxation and playful thoughts! When he paints, he tries not to be overly serious, but to allow his mind to wander and relax as the paint fills the canvas. Painting allows Carlos to drift beyond the rigid borders of his thoughts into a playful, creative, imaginative, and colorful realm of peace. He loves to use color and bold black lines to create compositions that are appealing to the eye and include many elements that keep the audience engaged. Focused on a grid-method, his paintings begin with plenty of line work and quickly transform into organic shapes to create a composition that inspires joy and wonder!
